I've bought myself a Zefal HPX frame pump...

...and I want to fit it beneath the top tube. It does fit on my CR1, but it is very compressed. Is there any possibility that having the frame pump too tight could damage my frame?

Thanks!

Yeah, the forces exerted from a compressed pump will be strong enough to push your seat tube and headtube away from the top tube.

I once saw this happen. I was cycling along with a few mates and suddenly we heard an almighty bang, next thing I know.... hold on my wife is saying my tea's ready.

    I'll finish the story later....

    Arf...

I was told you're not supposed to clamp things onto carbon frames, I was wondering whether sustained pressure from the pump could end up causing structural weakness. Seems a reasonable question to me.

Hmm! Is this a trick question? Do you seriously believe the minute amount of pressure from a cycle pump could do ANY damage to a frame? Me thinks you're 'avin a larf!!!

It can certainly damage the paint and lacquer where it wedges between the down tube and seat tube. Be careful the slightly flared section at the bottom of the pump handle doesn't rub against the seat tube.
