Fixed/Singlespeed wheelset

Does anyone have any recommendations for a cheap fixed wheelset (around £100)? I've seen people say that you can run a freewheel on a fixed/fixed hub so why would you want to buy a flip flop hub at an increased price?

A fixed wheelset should be pretty easy to build (no dishing) so why the inflated prices compared to standard road wheelsets?

hi mate, was wondering this myself a few days ago but then i found something,

go to your lbs and ask them to order in a set of system ex track hubs, (theyre only £25 and £20 (rear and front) and see if they have any old road wheels that the hubs have gone in, thne ask them if they can do a build on the old rims, or failing that just ask them to buy in 2 of the cheapest mavic 700c rims they can (should be around £10 each) and ask them to do a build for you, little tip though, once youve gone in and asked about it, the next time you visist to sort it all out, bring donuts or biscuits or cake with you as they will be much more abliged to help you if you "help them" happy hunting!!

  • thanks for the ideas, was looking for something a little more exciting. Am tempted to build my own with rigida dp18 rims, a little concerned about the weight of them though ( 590g). Anyone got any other suggestions for mid V rims around £25?
