Gears slipping on Mountain Bike

I recently had my gears adjusted by a local cycling shop. The chain is jumping when I am in certain gears (not all the time). I am happy to adjust the settings myself. Please can anyone advise wether it is the barrel adjustment I need or the fine adjustment, (or both). Thanks
