Please can someone recommend a decent light on a budget (£50) for use on dark lanes and single track off roading?
Thanks

Hi
I use a Cat eye EL500, was about £45 from my local LBS, I would recomend asking to buy the "older" style bracket as the one that is supplied could not hold the light in place.
This light is bright but does not have the flash option so is a constant beam, I prefer this.
Hope it helps :P0 -
Have a read of the WHat Lights thread, then buy the magicshine.0

All items add up to about £50. They take around 3 weeks to arrive and believe me, you won't find a brighter light for the money.0 -

I'm sure that is a great light but you still have the hassle of a battery pack and cables. The MTE P7 is cable free and you can buy extra batteries to extend the burn times.0 -
Is either or at this price.0

I think they'll surviveBattery packs seem to upset some people but it's no hardship.

I'm using a Fenix LD20 on a twofish mount which works pretty well for a AA cell torch and was around £50. I just didn't have the time to wait for a DE P7 to get here though I'll probably get one.-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_

Why are MTB economics; spend twice as much as you intended, but only half as much as you wish you could afford? :roll:0 -
My battery pack is mounted on my stem (moved my cateye to the bars). Never had any problems with it there and I dont have the hassle of stopping to change batteries mid-way through a longer ride.0

Just got my magicshine and it's awesome. Not tried it on a ride yet but it looks pretty decent quality and is very bright.
I've got some fenix torches as well that I have used a couple of times but now will just use as a helmet light/spares.0 -
Cheers guys this is really useful.
During the week (couple of night rides) I will only go out for an hour a time, so the MTEP7 seems a good deal becasue I can recharge when I get back.
Do you definitely need to buy their batteries and charge (whats the difference over normall AA batts?).

super_claret, what's the battery life like on that setup?Diamondback Vectra Pro (2003)0

I would really get the dedicated bike light rather than the torches - it's not much more, has much better battery life and a decent mount.0

The battery lasts for approx 1 hour 15mins but if your ride is longer, just pop in the other battery as they are bought in pairs.
I personally prefer the MTE P7 but I'm very rarely out for more than an hour.
I'm sure the Magicshine is a brilliant light, it's just not for me because of the battery pack.0
