Just washing the bike and noticed a split through on of the side blocks ,but is through to the tube It is only 10-12 mm long and looks more like a tear than a cut. It,s a 60a compound.
So my question is has anyone ever glued a tyre back together with any success. if so what glue did you use?
Its a new tyre used twice so a bit p--sed off as they arn't cheap. Or is it a new tyre?

Perhaps a strong rubber sealant or mixture from Weldtite?

i used metal stitching and super glue, plus taped a small square from another tyre inside-its held up for last couple months with no probs

metal stitching- i used a thin metal wire that is used on electronic circuit boards (not solder) which i had lying around, i found the cotton didnt last very long on the tread but is fine for sidewalls-if you can stitch it so the thread doesnt contact the floor your onto a winner.

Park do a Tyre repair boot. I'm sure it's only to 'get you home' though.

Shame about that tyre, I've been using Highrollers on my AM and DH bikes for years, worn the side Walls down to the canvas and never had one fail yet.

wait you have a split on the side blocks? the tread part of the tyre, or in the actual side wall?

  • Buy anew tyre you tight a**e! Tyres are the only thing keeping you in contact with the ground. If there is one area that you should never skimp, whether its car or bike, is on your tyres!!!!

so the split has gone through a knobble? Is it a gash with a noticable hole or just a split? A picture would help if you could get one. To be honest, i reckon itll worth running for ages yet. There is a hell of a lot of rubber left if it just a split. Did whatever do it cause a puncture?

Buy a new one, thats what stops your face hitting the ground.

A wire bead one is only £20 and a kevlar is £28

so there is just a tear in the rubber and not in the casing?

quite normal.blocks to get torn off.

If your chucking it, sent it my way

Put a patch, or gaffa tape on the inside of the tyre, and fill the gash with superglue / patch glue.

    Job done, next.

i didnt think it looked to bad, for the split second per rotation that point of the tyre will be in contact with the trail i dont youll notice. still, you could use for commuter bike purposes mebbe?
