Cool gilets??

Out on a loop of the Wirral yesterday wearing a L/S merino base layer and a normal S/S jersey, every now and then I could really feel the chilly sea breeze get through to my bones. I decided that on getting home I'd start looking for a light/mid-weight gilet to hopefully stay a little bit more insulated and warm.
There appears to be plenty of good stuff out there, but almost all of it looks pretty drab. Based on the kinds of jerseys you can get from places like http://www.prendas.co.uk or http://www.foska.com I'd assumed that similarly funky designs would be available for gilets -- but I'm disappointed at what's available. The closest thing I've found is this, from PBK:
In it, I'd feel a bit like Spiderman 8)
The other one that's caught my eye is Mavic's Helium, which looks like something that might be worn by a Stormtrooper (or by someone at an S&M party, as my gf remarked ):
I've checked for reviews, and about the Mavic at least one person complains that despite getting it in the smallest possible size (for them) the back flaps about like a bin bag.
Is there more cool stuff out there, or will I have to accept that gilets are generally just a bit boring?[/img]

I have that very Rapha one. Ace.
The black Assos one makes you look like a camp Darth Vader.
See

Haha, very nicely done. A bit on the expensive side, but then of course Darth Vader doesn't wear Primark
The Rapha one is pretty stylish too.0 -

at the cheaper end, I've got a Campag one that fits well and does the job. It was £30 odd quid IIRC.Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0

£105 for a gilet is taking the p*ss IMO.

£15 decathlon black sport gilet, big pocket on back, mesh back, windproof and fits very well.0

Excellent photo-edit with that Vader photo
My partner has the Assos and swears by it. Expensive, yes but it's a versatile piece of kit. The Rapha is over-priced but it looks superb on and packs small. Their soft-shell gilet is fantastic. Prendas always has some excellently priced gilets.M.Rushton0 -
Post update: just stumbled across the Italian brand Jollywear on Amazon. Not sure about the quality, but in order of increasing jolliness, these managed to catch my eye:
At 40 quid or a bit less, reasonably priced as well.0 -

+1 on the Assos Element Zero - mine's black but it doesn't look as gimpishon the bike as Nap D would make you believe.Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos0

Heh heh, they are a very nice piece of kit. I would happily own and wear one...
I just went for Rapha because, well, dunno. No better but just liked that too!0 -

They come in many colours.
Can't you see the similarity in shape?
At the front they are cut away to allow arm movement, and are often decorated with a single pillar in contrasting colour.
So called because if you open them out they have the shape of a fiddle (violin) back.
Interestingly the primitive shape of a vestment (chasuble) is the same as an old fashioned cycle cape, and for the same reason - it was a travelling cloak - a poncho.
