Who's really good at the moment?

I had my first listen to the Cribs new album today, and was frankly disappointed. Nowhere near as good as their first 3 albums, they sound like they're trying to appeal to the masses a la the Kings of Leon. I keep on going back to old stuff that i was into years ago; Mainly 90's indie/pop stuff Stone Roses, Charlatans and a few proper indie bands that never really got the recognition that they deserved. I also still listen to a bit of Elbow, Muse, Teenage Fanclub and lots of real old Stones, Who, etc. I am awaiting a Band of Horses cd (After hearing the soundtrack to that awesome Danny Mac vid), but who are the bands out there now that are killing it? I really haven't heard anything that stopped me in my tracks for a long time.

really dont like flaming lips but the new single is grand might even try the album.
wild beasts, trying to decide if they are so good i cant understand them, or so bad i dont want to understand them. last couple of singles are stand out good though esp all the kings men.
the xx, jumping on a bandwagon a bit but i really like some of their stuff.
  • Fleet Foxes are one of my favourite bands at the moment.
Try last.fm, I put Fleet Foxes into the Radio section, then it plays other bands that you may like (or pick any band and it plays similar stuff). Bon Iver is someone else I got into through the website.
Not everyones taste though of course.
It takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.

This really isn't close to new, but if you like the Fannies you might like Mull Historical Society, they don't sound exactly alike but they remind me of each other if you know what I mean. The album Us, I guess, or This Is Hope. This Is Hope is better but Us is a bit more accessible

Oh, weirdly Funeral isn't on the Band of Horses album  It's OK though. If you've somehow managed to miss the Arcade Fire, you might like them, the album Funeral (coincidence!) is ace.

And these are nothing like the ones you listed, but I'm loving the Florence and the Machine album Lungs, Frank Turner's second album Love Ire and Song, and Emmy the Great's album First Love.

Oh, and I always want to recommend everyone to listen to Ideas Above Our Station by Hundred Reasons, and Far by Regina Spektor, but I think there's a fairly high chance you might hate them

Now there's a blast from the past, not heard them for years.

I did for a couple of weeks, but they seem to have found out that i'm not in the UK and have locked me out  .

I do like MHS Northwind, i've just not listened to them for a bit. Final Arrears is an awesome track that got me into them to start with. Cosmic Rough Riders are another great band with a similar sound too. Must be something in the water in Scotland, there are some great indie/folk/pop bands from up there.

Funeral is on THIS Band of Horses album

Vampire Weekend's album is excellent. Also have a look at Cajun Dance Party's 'The Colourful Life'. I''ve also been getting into The Rakes recently, Capture/Release is a top record.

  • New Enter Shikari album is awesome, going to see them in Manchester tomorrow, can't wait.
Also Gaslight Anthem, although they haven't done much for a while and the new blackout album's a cracker if you're into heavier stuff
