I've recently acquired an old (70s/80s) 531 frame which I'm looking to bring back to life for winter use - I'm slightly confused as to the use of the little add-on on the inside of the rear seat-stay - can anyone give me a clue what it's for?

It's for hanging the chain on when you have the wheel out.

It's a Paramount (not the Schwinn version, this one was made (I think) in Mansfield) - it's showing it's age, but I'll run it through the winter and then maybe have it refurbed next year

Thanks! - looks even better now I've been over the chrome with some foil and polish got it shining....
  • Don't forget that it has the benefits of the pre 1984 pedal reflector law.

    I think she is beautiful.
Racing is rubbish you can\'t relax and enjoy it- because some bugger is always trying to get past.

Many thanks for all the kind comments - she's nearly ready for the road, so I thought I'd put up some pictures as requested:

I've mainly used Athena components along with a few old bits I had lying around in the garage and a few ebay bargains.
Apologies that it's not set up in front of the garage door with the cranks in the correct place, etc, etc.... - I was i n a rush to get some photos before it rained so some of the bits weren't correctly set-up....(which also explains why the saddle isn't level.....) - hopefully I'll get chance to finish it over the weekend and get out on the road..
