Hi guys, I'm in the market for a new bike with £1500 ish budget. As I'm sure most people do, I'm looking through the reviews, the specs etc... and I'm fairly sure I've managed to get it down to 2 possible bikes, The Focus Cayo Ultegra or the Boardman Pro Carbon but I am damned if I can make my mind up here.......... What is the best bike for my budget!!? :?

One of the issues and gripes from forum users in recent times seems to be non-availability of Boardmans. Check availability before you get disappointed in waiting times. Personally I'd give Boardmans a miss simply because of Halfords and their service...but that is a personal opinion.

At a budget of £1500 you have a bigger choice than these two models...which ones have you discounted?
  • How about Pinarello FP2
  • HebdenBiker

    Nice Bike
    Pinarello

    and only 1,249.99

There is of course a huge range to look at

I think you will Agree this also is a nice bike
  • I've just bought a Boardman Pro Carbon and love it.

I'm a big lad at 105kg and even I found the Pro Carbon stiff, light and responsive. You might want to put some kool stops on the brakes though!

I was told by my local Halfords that a new delivery has just come in. I ordered the bike on Monday and it was in on Friday so availabilty sounds OK at the mo.

Pleasantly surprised to find that it came with a SRAM Force 2010 Crankset on it rather than the advertised S900.

The service at my Halfords was pretty good but if it puts your mind at ease I was told that the bike is assembled and setup to a point by Boardman mechanics and the only work done by Halfords was to put the seatpost & saddle together and on and to put the bar and stem on. Even the bar tape was on with only a protective wrapper to remove.

Can't say anything about the Focus Cayo but would recommend the Boardman.

1st post singing the praises of Boardman bikes and Halfords hmmmm - could it be Chris Boardman himself?

There are alot of very good reviews from both magazines and customers praising the Boardman, you just need to be aware that it might not be built properly by Halfords and its worth paying a LBS to set it up properly for you for peice of mind if nothing else.

  • Hi Guys, thanks for the advice which is all been really useful. I haven't yet made a decision because anything I have been looking into other models and makes so I'll keep you posted. The Felt F3 is one I hadn't cosidered but its spec and the reviews are very good so worthy of a look without a doubt.

Thinking the same as you in terms of price.

I thought about the planet X with some upgrades as well as something by wiggle.

I may come down to which bikes I can try. Road bikes are very fit critical so while I'd buy a mtb frame over the internet I'm not so sure about a road bike.
