Rear Shock..

My Bro wants a rear shock for his Kona Stinky and can't decide between a coil or air shock.
Ideally he wants to shed some weight on the big beast, but doesn't want to buy a shock that'll be kak DH/FR.
With any coil shock he'd have to upgrade to the heaviest spring or the air will have to be able to run higher pressures to work properly.
Any ideas?

either gotta be fox dhx air or dhx coil really for freeride, they've got a few variations, depends how much he wants to spend.0

i can seriously recommend the DHX 5.0 air over the coil version. You would be saving around 500g and the shock feels almost as plush as the coil. Plus it feels solid.
Normally I would say just get an RP23 and get it PUSHed to your riding, but if you truly intend to hammer it, it's probably better to go with the DHX 5.0 for it's bottom out resistance.0 -
No love for the Rockshox Vivid?
Go coil and try find a used Titanium spring cheap from the bay/here/pinkbike.0
