North Yorkshire Moors???

I'm planning a Coast to Coast in 2010 and am going from St Bees to Robin Hood's Bay but want to mix some road with some 'easy' off-road sections. I am confdent with my route taking in certain 'musts' through to Northallerton but I'm unsure of a decent easy to follow route from there to the finish over the N. York Moors. Can anyone help with a route?
I'm not looking for anything too technical or demanding and the use of minor tarmac is more than acceptible but some forest tracks/fireroad type trails would be good too.
Also, not being too familiar with the terrain, would it be feasible to do Northallerton to the coast in one day?
All help gratefully accepted!!
