We all know that product labelling is a con but I came across an example of deception recently that would have made even the most ardent fraudster wince.

On the front of a pack of four apples I bought there was a circular label containing an image of the Union Flag. "British Apples" was printed in white across the flag.. However, when I took out one of the apples I noticed a sticker on it stating 'French Golden Delicious'.

I again looked at the Union Flag label on the front.

It said in very small white letters in the red border around the edge of the label "Packed in the UK".

Just how far can the marketing guys stretch the truth?

Bob.

Wouldn't give Golden Delicious apples the time of day in any case, being neither golden nor delicious in my experience. Plenty of far nicer genuinely British apples on sale at the moment, thankfully.

Why do they need packing in the first place?

You're right. It's scandalous. Write to your MP.
