Wider tyre: Front or Rear

At the risk of sounding like a numpty, here goes
I am currently running Bonty Mud X 26x2.0 front and rear but I have a Bonty Jones ACX 26x2.2 kicking about and thought I would give it a go. So would I be better with the wider tyre up front or does it really depend on riding style, terrain etc. :?
Cheers.

up front - on the basis that its easy to deal with a rear end slide than a front. But skinny front and chunky rear is better for climbing.0

Yup, definitely running my Mud X's over winter but thought I would try this out for a month or two hopefully before the weather turns. Have been meaning to try this out for ages but never quite got round to it!0

You want wider up front for better braking and turning grip. Narrower at the back allows for less rolling resistance. If you're not living life on the edge, you're taking up too much room!0

Definitely wider up front for more grab.0

Whichever end you feel you need more grip on. Which is almost always the front, but not always, depends where and how you ride. When I started riding again I found that I didn't need that much front grip because I wasn't riding that hard or fast, but I was always running out of rear grip on climbs because I didn't have great technique (and with retrospect, I was riding silly climbs).
But these days I run more grip on the front. I just don't think it's as clearcut as people think. The tyres do different jobs, I consider each one seperately.Uncompromising extremist0
