Anyone with an Assos Intermediate jersey, I need your help!

Hi there,

I've just received delivery of one of these from ChainReaction, and am having a few problems with the zip.

I assumed that since the jersey features a full zip, that you would be able to un-zip it completely and open it out, however I'm feeling a lot of resistance when the zip comes down to the 'Sponsor Yourself' silver 'collar'. I am afraid to use any more force, as the zip is either broken, or it isn't supposed to completely un-zip.

Can someone who owns this garment, please shed some light on this issue?

Thanks for the help in advance.

James

I presume you have folded the silver collar out of the way so the zip can actually come out? It acts as a kind of 'cover' when done up you see.

Yes, the little zip port thing can be a bit of a fiddle. Make sure you fold it back and it should open fully without a problem.
  • Thanks for the replies, guys.

Agreed - that 'zip port' thing is a little pesky, but yes, I pulled it all the way back, so it isn't touching the zip, but still nothing...

I think I'll have to send it back to ChainReaction :(

TBH, that's put me a little bit off Assos (although I do already own some Mille shorts), as I'm branching out into more expensive apparell now to reflect the increase in cycling frequency. Out of interest, is the Intermediate jersey comparable to the Rapha Softshell?

Bummer. Sounds like you've got a dud. I think that must be very rare for Assos as all the stuff I've had from them has been first class. I'm sure CRC will swap it for you without problem. Don't give up on it though, the Intermediate Jacket is an ace bit of kit - just perfect for this time of year.
  • I took it out the packet again just now and I've fixed it!

On closer inspection, there was a loose thread that was sewn in, in such a way, that it was obstructing the zip. A quick thread snip and all good now!

Bonza! That should see you through to the end of November!

You'll be wanting an Airblock 851 then......

I have loads of Assos gear, and I must say, I find the zips on all of them (apart from the Fugu as its much thicker) very fiddly and delicate. The quality of fabric is A1, but they need to sort the zips out - way too delicte and you cant just casually open em - you have to do it slowly else they sometimes come apart midway down.

Nearly all my kit is assos and I've never had any probs with any of the zips. If you have a faulty zip on a new garment, you should just send the garment back to the retailer straight away. Zip breakage on any make of garment after several years is not all that uncommon but when the zip on my partner's 5 year old assos summer jersey broke, rather than throwing away an expensive jersey, he sent it direct to assos and they replaced the zip.

+1 - good reply and very true about all zips ....
  • I used the Intermediate for the first time in anger today.

It was about 16 degrees, which I think is on the higher side of the recommended use temperature. That said I did find I was sweating quite a bit. I have read elsewhere in forums etc, that a good quality base layer is good in these situations as the wicking soaks up all the sweat. Would you agree with this statement?

I agree about the zip. Hoping it will get a bit easier with more use!

always always wear a base layer
  • But isn't wearing a base layer going to make me even warmer?

Pardon for my ignorance - I've never gone down the base layer route before!
