new bike drama!

I got my new bike last week no had much chance to use it except for on canal paths to work. Yet in 2 rides to work I'm managed to get flat on each ride on the same wheel.

The first was around the bottom of the presta valve so i couldn't repair it. There is nothing in the tyre so just assumed it was faulty.

I've not had much experience of using presta valve's but brought a replacement and pumped it up to 40psi so not under pressured.

The 2nd flat looks like its at the same place on the valve again nothing in the tyre. I've looked at the rim and i can't see any shards but i didn't put rim tape in. Can it be puncture from the valve hole?

Is it my bad? Or should i take it back and get the shop to replace my inner tube and put rim tape in? i spent a grand on new bike so hoped it would be perfect!!

Also i've lost with disc brakes :p my front disc is rubbing. I reset the caliper which seemed to help but its now started rubbing again. Should i take it back? I'm weary that the pads will wear out before the 'free' 6 weeks service I can have. Would they sort that out for free? the disc seems to be 'wobbly' not in a loose way but like untrue like a bent wheel.

I've not got a clue so any advice would be appreciated!!! prior to this bike I had an 8 yr old GT which i never had any problems with what so ever so kinda pissed off with the current problems :P

You need rim tape! Or use a few wraps of electrical tape.

    Cable discs need frequent adjustment.

    i feel your pain man

def get some kinda rim tape-

i feel your pain with mechanical discs brakes, mine seems to change every time itake the wheel off-luckily i dont use that bike very often
there are two allen key bolts that allow you to reposition the brake calliper, there is also normally a allen key screw to move in and out the inside pad depending on which model you have.
Dont look at it-ride it! they are tools not f*cking ornaments

Seems funny to me that ANY new bike hasn't already been fitted with rim tape.
  • good cause i'm not laughing
  • I 've just checked and it has got rim tape but looking in the light u can see the rim shining thru on the edge. So i want your opinion should I get the bike shop to replace the 2 inner tubes its trashed or is it my responsibility to check it before I ride? / could it have moved when i ride?

I've just got the image of some spotty teenager with a screw driver piercing thru the tape over zealously GRRRRRR!!

Same with mine, I have to take the front wheel off to get it in the car and everytime I do the pads rub.

There's a simple guide on here somewhere on how to set up but I don't feel I should have to do this everytime teh wheel comes off.

    Here you go http://www.sram.com/en/avid/hydraulicdi ... index.php#[/url]

I've got my bike back with the supplier at the minute cause a little piece of black material feel out of the caliper the last time i had to sort the brakes.

Advice from Halfords was to bend the disc to make it not rub!?!
