I was watching flash forward, it seemed to go on for ever!....

Not a fan, I reckon they'll drag it out for ever series after series as so many American programmes seem to do. I'm getting out now and defying fate - I've got a book I meant to read somewhere...

    This.

It seems to me that most American TV serials come up with an interesting concept, but no actual story. Great idea, bunch of people surviving on a mysterious island / discover they have super powers / see into their future! There is a beginning, a really long protracted middle, but never any end (until ratings drop far enough for it to be axed with either a rushed conclusion that makes no sense or no conclusion whatsoever).

    There are exceptions, of course.

Watched flash forward and thought it was pants.

Watched Stargate Universe and it was amazing!!!! Now that's a show that's got a fur coat, corset, french knickers and stocking and suspenders on. Looks and it has a lot of potential for enjoyment.
I have nothing more to say on the matter.

    Heres a good one,

Edge of Darkness with Bob Peck and Joanne Whalley, excellent 1908's nuclear drama, blows all those American concepts out of the water.

I thought the idea behind it was quite clever but as some had said it will be probably be dragged on for ages :(

Thought it was ok, a bit cheesey but I'll see where it goes.

Think I'll get hold of the book instead. At least I'll get to the end of it.

So far I have failed to keep track of Twin Peaks, something involving luminous aquatic aliens in the Everglades, Lost, Heroes, and many others I cannot remember.

24 kept me hooked for each series, and I'm quite keen on Dexter. Medium's OK too since it's a different story each week.

I'm also expecting it to drag on just like lost, but I'll give it a chance and watch the first series and see how it goes.

One series that I did get into and that actually had an ending was Jericho, which was about a neuclear terrorist attack on the USA.

Only series I can keep watching after the years are House and CSI, everything else I can't be bothered.

  • I saw flashforward for about 30 mins and though this is going to be worse than Lost  . Nothing has been close to the Sporanos 8) . Shame about the ending though.

    The Wire.

I have the first episode of Generation Kill on my Sky+ box ready to be watched. It's supposed to be quite good.

But I repeat :- The Wire.

Any American TV series that doesn't rely on a linear storyline will usually be better than one that needs a storyline that continues week after week. That's why there have been 18 years of Law and Order and shows like House and CSI can continue year in and year out - then present new 'stories' each week that are independent from the previous week.

Shows like Prison Break were great the first year, but once they actually broke out of prison - the show became pants.

Based upon your recommendation I shall give it a go, woe betide you if its rubbish  . According to some MP though its outside my front door, as per some of my postings about shootings on my road it obviously is :P

The Wire is the best TV show ever.

Only one thing to suggest. You must watch it from season one episode one. It's not worth missing an episode, since the entire show is story arc. Best watched on dvd me thinks.
Note: the above post is an opinion and not fact. It might be a lie.

The Sopranos is the best ever, for me, The Wire is a very close second. I liked The Sopranos ending!

Cool. I watched the first episode this morning and it did enough to hook me in. Bit weird seeing Ziggy in the marines though

What I did was watch an episode, then read the episode guide on Wikipedia just to get the main plot points clear in my head before I watch the next one. That way you pick up all the characters' names too.

Yeah, there are some decent American programmes. I really liked Deadwood & Dexter myself.....but even they go on a bit too long. Never watched the Wire, sounds good.

Yeah. Watched it. It was ok for half an hour or so, but like everyone says - I can see it's going to drag on for forever. So I have given up already.

But surely the best series to drag on forever was Prison break? (The "brill" Shawshank Redemption managed to get 20+ yrs of being in prison into a 2 to 3 hour film. But Prison break was like watching big brother. Everyone running around, but not much happening.

    Haven't seen flash forward but

    +1 for Edge of Darkness.

also: jesusandsedischain, that's a first class name you've given yourself. Chapeau.
