Bought an Endura Stealth last night, wore it home in the rain and this morning. So far impressed.
Having spunked that much on a jacket I'll be wearing come rain or shine for the foreseeable...

I put on my lovely brand new Giordana winter jacket (bought in a summer sale) to go out the other night - it wasn't that cold, I just wanted to try it out - and it was just that little bit too small. Not so small it wasn't fit for purpose, but... It'll be tricky wearing multiple layers under it when it gets properly cold. Bugger.

    Yup!

3 degrees in the morning and frost on the ground did it for me
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.
  • I did realise I'll need to hunt down my full fingered gloves, but jackets? Merino SS jersey and arm warmers should do for a long time yet!

Though I did wish I'd either had all my clothes dried out properly, or a stowaway jacket, while fixing punctures this morning - Felt the cold then I can tell you!

For London you don't even need a winter jacket tbh! Water/wind-proof shell + base layer do the job just fine. Do use thermal tights, but only when it gets below 10C - 16C and sunny today! :D

For London you don't even need thermal tights to be honest. Pair of standard tights will do just fine. do use a winter jacket though, but only when it gets below 10C.

    See what I did there?

  • Bitterly regretted my decision to stay in shorts yesterday morning. It was about 4 degrees, and took at least nine miles before my legs felt fully warm. I can live without the winter jacket at the moment, if I'm wearing long sleeves, but I was nithered yesterday.

gilet and long sleeve tech top regardless of how cold or wet it gets. Any more than that and i overheat. If i feel cold i push harder.
  • Baggies today - there, I said it.

Phone said it was 3 degrees this morning when I left. Still in base layer plus Swrve Hiding Hoody (pretty thin) but had to switch to full finger gloves and added a buff around the neck. I'm trying to put off wearing my winter jacket for as long as possible because it stinks and is totally unbreathable (Altura Nightvision waterproof jacket). Hoping to buy a new jacket this year but will jsut keep adding layers of jerseys for as long as I can.

I just realised that there are different definitions of a winter jacket.

I voted yes, but meant my winter jersey, that's enough.
I may add my stowaway if it gets cold and wet. If wet only, then it is used with a summer (thin) jersey.
My old boil-in-the-bag Endura jacket may be used if I go out in sub-zero but that's very unlikely now I have discovered that showerproof (comfortable and slightly damp in heavy rain) is better than waterproof (hot and wet/sweat on the inside).

Can I change my vote to no on that basis?

  • I thought i'd need my gore alpx on tuesday to at least keep some wind and rain spatter off me... Had to turn the jacket inside out upon getting home and pour the sweat off.

No need for winter jacket let alone jersey for a while me thinks.

Yes 'cos I leave home at 7, winter jacket is also my windproof is also my waterproof (i.e. limited selection  ) BUT I'm still in shorts

    So I've half MTFU'd and half wimped out...I'm a manly wimp :?

It's just a hill. Get over it.

Assos 851 windproof breathes very well so covers a wider temp range. This was a birthday pressie a couple of years ago, I'd never have bought it myself.

It's good to wear the 851 at the moment in the morning (except if it is raining hard) but in the evening it is a bit too warm, I've been stashing it in the saddle bag and wearing a gilet instead

i have one of these. it's ace, but i find you cook if you don't have all the vents open (once you've warmed up, of course)

But seriously, where is it 3C? BBC said 5C in Glasgow, still in sorts, but long sleved top and long fingered gloves.
