Both are good, Ae is more demanding and certain sections of the trail are pretty hard/awful to ride, but there are some really good bits and the last section is a joy to play on all day. Mabie is a shorter easier route and has a nice mini 4X jump park to play around on, and if you're feeling adventurous you could try the northshore route they have. I also like Mabie cafe too.0

Both are good. Mabie is fun but not that long.
Ae is good - last descent is awesome if you like jumps/drops. if you are into that kind of thing before you do the last section of descent you can do an extra bit of fireroad climb then go and do one of the dh courses. Only done the Shredder one but it's great fun - nothing too massive on it apart from the road gap!0 -
Mabie's ace, it's a hidden gem. It's not so long that you couldn't do two loops. Either that or just venture about 10 miles down the road to Dalbeattie, just as good if not better (though no facilities, just a car park.0

cheers guys sounds like ill give AE a shot, and put my HT through a biot of downhill aswell0

AE was good, but slightly ruined as I had to help rescue someone with a broken wrist (not complaining, I was glad to help)
Not done Mabie yet, maybe next year (ok pun was intended)0 -
Mabie was excellent with a really cool cafe at the start/end with a roaring fire! The trails were good too. We found AE to be a bit strange, we got there and there wasnt a soul there on a beautiful sunny day! The trails were excellent though, the bit of board walk on the top section was really fun, went round and did it twice
Mabie also has the hotel right at the start of the trails with wooden pods you can hire for £35, havent stayed there but defo goin to try it this winter.0 -

Could have something to do with the fact that Ae is in the middle of nowhere and not on any main roads...0 -
We were up at Ae two week ago it was pretty empty, we saw two folk who had ran round the full red route and were running up the shredder (glad it was quiet) and they said they'd only seen a couple of folk.0

ae is the quiet one of the two but is v hard on you especially on a hard tail, trail are very rough, u need to go for it otherwise it will just beat u up, mabie is fun and IMHO a bit easier, but Ae is a fave of mine
dont matter what one you do u will enjoy them both
post on monday let us know what u did and what you thoughtdont only ride a bike0 -
Ae is excellent, it's got plenty climbing but broken up with down hil rather than straight up and straight down. Omega Man at the end is excellent, not a patch on spooky wood though.
Enjoy it, hope the weather stays dry.0 -
ae has been ruined use to be a really good track def would'nt do it on a hard tail lots of lads go just to do the last part..mabie is excellent and so is newcastleton..or if you have a bit longer in the day head up to kirroughtree..0
-
hi guys went up to Ae and had a blast, there was some really hard riding, rough stuff that you could get no rolling speed on but the down hill fast flowing sections were really good, would love to have a go on a full suss would defo take the sting out, but id defo go back and do it again with the hard tail. some really techincal stuff i thought but that made it all the more enjoyable, miles apart from whinlatter. cant wait to do more of the 7 stanes just hope i wont be dissapointed after Ae.
cheers for your posts0 -
Where in Cumbria are you based gannrowl?
I am in Dumfries so we could meet up sometime for a ride?
Just home from a ride up Blencartha from Keswick. Took a friend and her 10yr old son for their first proper Lakes off-road ride. Beautiful up there today.0 -
hi trailpuppet based in maryport. ye we could do. unfortunatly i dont think ill be getting much more riding in befor the new year just in the process of moving house . would haev been a cracking day for it yesterday unfortunalty i had to work.
how was the ride?0 -
Tough luck on moving and not getting any riding. Moving far?
Magic day for riding. Stopped at the top of the Blencartha/Glendeterra valley and it was just so peacefull & sunny 8)0 -
dont ride mabie forests pheonix trail, it does have some good downhill in it but nothing memorable and there is way too much uphill-its no fun. the only reason to visit this trail centre is the fantastic 4X track. if you want to ride go to the forest of AE, and if you get a chance do the "shredder" freeride trail, very fast and alot of fun. then the bottom section of the "Omega man" provides a adrenaline pumping 1-2 min run with jumps and drops and north shore.the forest of AE is the place to go.0

I'd say Ae if you have to choose. Mabie seems like there's more uphil than down! I don't dislike it, but I'd choose Kirroughtree, Dalbeattie & Ae before Mabie.0

Mabie is a dream, I love riding there. On a summers day it makes for brilliant riding.0
