Rear Light for Aero / integrated Seatpost - suggestions ?

Hey there,
Just received my new Ridley Noah frame and am looking for suggestions for a nice rear light.
The Knog models (Gecko & skink) look OK, but reviews say not very bright.
I have to spend a bit of time riding alone on a major road, so want plenty of brightness (i.e like my existing Cherry bomb), but aero / integrated seatpost mount-friendly (without being the size of a brick)
The other option is zip-ties on the old light, under the saddle.
Suggestions ?
Thanks in advance

I don't know of any that will clamp round an aero seatpost but you could fit a Topeak saddle bag and clip the light onto that. Their wedge packs have a strap on the back to clip a light to.0

I've got a Blackburn Flea which is pretty good, certainly brighter than the Knogs I've seen. Attaches with a rubber backed velcro strap so you shouldn't have any problems fitting it to an aero post. Run time is only about 12 hours on flashing but they charge off of any 1.5 volt battery in about an hour. Lack of a replaceable battery also means they can be completely sealed from the weather which is a good thing IMO.0

Can you get anything to fit on the chain stay rather than the seatpost?
Or the bit of seat tube below the seat post clamp??Cannondale Synapse 105, Giant Defy 3, Giant Omnium, Giant Trance X2, EMC R1.0, Ridgeback Platinum, On One Il Pompino...0 -
I run a Cateye TL-LD600 on a Look 595. The mount that I have means the light can be fitted vertically and the band is flexible enough to run around the large oval diameter on the seat post

Never had a problem fitting my Blackburn Mars 4 to the Giant "eliptical" (see aero) seatpost on my Defy Advanced. OK it doesn't look pretty but it stays in place and is bright as Stephen Hawking0

I agree I bought the Blackburn Mars 4 its amazingly bright and can fit it to the bottom of my aero, have also bought another clamp for my other bike to save me 10 seconds everytime !0

Bought a knog skink for my cervelo post and it snapped within two takings on and off. Might have worked if it wasn't so deep front to back. Ended up zip-tying a Cateye TL LD610 horizontally to the seat rails and it looks dead neat like it was supposed to be there and is very bright too.0

I made my own pretty neat solution to this problem. I used the rear reflector mount that came with my road bike which clips onto the saddle rails. I took the reflector off and attatched a Cateye light mount to it. I've got one of the 5 LED cat eyes mounted to that.
It's turned out really neat and can be clipped on and off in seconds. People behind me in TTs say it's so bright it's actually painful to look at. Visible during the day too.0 -
Ref my post above, here is a quick pic;
Hope this helps

The Smart 1/2 watt comes with two mounts and one is made ot go on seat chain stays.
Yeah, that could work - how is it not fitting though? Is it a case of the bracket simply doesn't have the length, or is it that it can't go tight enough to hold the light steady?
If it's the latter, could you not pad it with old tubes etc?
And if it's the former - electrical tape?!Cannondale Synapse 105, Giant Defy 3, Giant Omnium, Giant Trance X2, EMC R1.0, Ridgeback Platinum, On One Il Pompino...0 -
To be honest you are compromising visibility a fair bit putting a light on the seat stays; it is quite far down and blocked by the wheel. I have Smart 1/2 watts down there on my commuter using the supplied brackets but only in addition to lights further up.
For a race bike you are best off getting the light on to the seatpost or saddle (Fizik for example do integrated saddle lights), anything with a rack best off at the back of the rack. If you run mudguards that take a light that is also a good place.0 -
Why's your bike in the shower room!?!? :shock:Cannondale Synapse 105, Giant Defy 3, Giant Omnium, Giant Trance X2, EMC R1.0, Ridgeback Platinum, On One Il Pompino...0

We haven't got room to swing a cat in our shower room.
There are just two showers - was half way through getting undressed, when a big guy, reminded me of lurch, mumbled into the changing rooms, took himself straight into the vacant shower stall, and proceeded to undress, then get in the shower!
I just stood there thinking to myself - "Yeah mate, I hate fucking queing too, but whatcha goona do?"

got a Giant Defy Advanced with aero seatpost and put one of these on there. The band just fits, and I would recommend testing it fits on the frame prior to purchase if possble. (looks the same as Rich.H's light)

I think the OP was looking for a slightly cheaper solution than "buy a new bike"!Cannondale Synapse 105, Giant Defy 3, Giant Omnium, Giant Trance X2, EMC R1.0, Ridgeback Platinum, On One Il Pompino...0

I'd bung a smart light on either of the seat stays if you cant get anything on the seatpost.
The clips on the saddlepack could be a good idea - but check that the light is the right angle for it - if its pointing the wrong way - then its not as visible.0 -
Watch out for the light bouncing off the saddle pack too - I lost an expensive (£20) rear light that way on a sportive not so long ago. Heard it clatter off on a bumpy descent - didn't fancy going back for it!Cannondale Synapse 105, Giant Defy 3, Giant Omnium, Giant Trance X2, EMC R1.0, Ridgeback Platinum, On One Il Pompino...0
