Budget Bike in the Sales?

Has anyone spotted any really good bargains in the sales at the bottom end of the range?

I need a bike to train and compete in my first Triathlon and was hoping to get one of the usually suggested £500 bikes at a much reduced price at this time of year.

Thanks

You might get lucky but there does not seem to be much about this year - certainly not a a very reduced price.

It's been an unusual year. Lots of places seeemed to under order expecting demand to fall (recesion) but its gone up so not much stock left. Plus the fall in sterling has pushed the prices of 2010 bikes up - not much incentive there to deep discount.

If you find the right size at a decent price I'd grab it.

    Cheers

  • Thanks Steve that doesn't sound very optimistic. I'll try a a "wanted" add.

Do a search for cube bikes - seen them reduced somewhere. Hang on long enough you will get your bargain - be wary of size though, shops tend to discount the obscure sizes, as they can't shift them.

If you're not that fussed about spec, Halfords always have some cheap bikes. Second hand might be a better option for a starter bike though. If not, might be worth hanging on until the xmas sales.
  • Have you tried wiggle, Winstanleys and CRC?
Bianchi. There are no alternatives only compromises!
I RIDE A KONA CADABRA -would you like to come and have a play with my magic link?
  • If you can stretch your budget a bit I would go for a Focus Variado - I was in the same boat last year going for my first Tri and the Focus was brilliant, a great bike with good spec and a pleasure to ride. I'm just selling it to my brother so I can get my next steed (very sad to see it go)
  • I've found very few 09 bikes left, at least not in popular sizes. You may get lucky though. However the Giant Defy 2010 range starts at about £450 I think and you could do worse.
