Need new utility bike

I had a Fahrrad T400 (http://www.bikefix.co.uk/index.php?uniq ... _id=36#a13) but some bugger nicked it. I used it for the following:
- shopping with very heavy panniers
- towing children on a tag-a-long
- backup commuter for when my main commuter is broken or if I want to carry loads to work
To be honest it was a bit over-spec'd for what it was used for and it weighed an absolute ton. So I'm prepared to consider something slightly less tough. The replacement must have flat bars, dynamo lights and a good rack (although I'm happy to fit a rack, of course). Budget is £1000. Options:
- another T400
- cannondale trekking ultra
- Koga Miyata (too expensive)
- Thorn something or other
I would be prepared to get something built for me but you get a lot less for your money when you do this.
There must be other possibilities out there. Any ideas?
