What singlespeed?

Hello,

I have been searching for a good dependable single speed to ride XC on.
I am 5ft8, so would suit 16" or 17" frames.

I don't want to have to faff around with chain 'tensioner's' and would like the ability for it to have a derailleur if the occasion calls for it...

I would ideally like it to have some suspension forks on it instead of rigids, but if it doesn't then that's no a huge issue.

Hope you guys can help!

Cheers.

  • +1 for the Scandal.

Just got one myself. Running gears at the moment but may singlespeed it later.

    budget?

slot dropout scandal or inbred are tough to beat at the cheaper end of the scale.

Ibis Tranny if you want a good bit of carbon-loving bling
Evil Sovereign has sliding dropouts so can run SS
I have the last 2 (although I run the Evil geared) and can recommend either, depending on what/how you want to ride. The Evil is heavy (>2.5 kg frame) and can be run down mountains just about as hard as you can. The Ibis is very light (1.5kg) and stiff but compliant and a great trail bike.

almost any new frame you buy today will be sus corrected so you can run with a shock or rigid fork. You just need to match the A2C length to the frame design.

/edit ooooh. or Kona Explosive also has sliding dropoouts. I would love to try one of them (lightweight whippy steel xc frame)!
Everything in moderation ... except beer
Beer in moderation ... is a waste of beer

If riding an XC race bike is like touching the trail,
then riding a rigid singlespeed is like licking it
... or being punched by it, depending on the day
  • Simple, Cotic. :)
The road is long...so take a shortcut.
