Rear mech seizure.

I seem to find that after a year or so the pivot bolt on the rear mech starts to seize.
I wonder if this can be greased - if I remember rightly the bolt is held in the body of the mech by a clip or washer that doesn't look like it's designed to be removed.
Spraying lube around the bolt doesn't do much.
Mech is a cheapie Sora or Tiagra and I atualyl have a new one ferreted away but the existing one is fine other than it isn't now pivoting nice and cleanly and the mech is not aligning itself with the spockets and hence a rattly noise is audible from it.

You can remove the clip and clean it all out. It needs at least 3 hands to get it all back together though. The spring is quite strong. Soak it in Plusgas easing fliud and give it a good workout. Then give it a good lubing with PTFE chain lube making sure you get it in at the back. If this fails then try stripping, cleaning and greaseing it. but be prepared to bin it if you can not get it back together.

Cheers - well, I have had a partial shot at this tonight - unbolted mech, removed the c-clip then the part that has the little screw in it which also presses against the spring. The spring didn't seem to want to come out of the body of the mech - this is positioned around the pivot bolt. Left it in there for fear of stretching/knackering the spring and I just initially WD-40'd it then slapped some grease in. Seems to move better now so hopefully that will give it a few more months.
