I'm on holiday in Burnham on Sea in a few weeks with my wife and 5 year old son.

Can anyone recommend a route nearby suitable for us (using a trailer bike)

Preferably I'm looking for off road or very quiet roads, circular and about 15 miles.

Thanks!

  • Never really been out that way.

Try looking at the Sustrans website they always have family routes listed.

Hi there, if you can get yourself to Cheddar near Weston-super-mare, you'll find the Strawberry line that runs on an old railway out to Yatton. Not very exciting but some nice views. Its about twenty miles out and back if you ride the full length. Then once youve entertained the wife and kids get yourself up onto blackdown on the mendips and have some fun!
  • Thanks both for your suggestions.

Konanige - Can you give me more information about where to pick up the Strawberry line? Is there a pub or another landmark near the start of it?

Just to try and help out I live near and use the strawberry line as a way to get back from the trails all the time its cycle route 26 try going to http://www.thestrawberryline.co.uk/. Also it starts by the cycle store in Cheddar and the staff there are very helpful. Hope this helps.
  • Looks great. I think we'll definitely give that a go.

The best place to get on it is at a place called Cross. Go up the A38 and go past the first Cheddar turning, go up the hill (mind the speed camera  ) take the next right and you will find a car park down there on the right. From there there is a path that runs back down to the A38 where you can cross. From there you are away. Be careful when you go through the tunnel, it's very dark in there but you have a line of catseyes to follow :D

    It's not circular though :(

  • Really enjoyed the Strawberry line. Thanks for the tips.

We started at Yately and rode to Cheddar and back. My five year old did 22 miles on the trailer bike and didn't complain once!
