Best Trail Centre for a Stag Do

I'm thinking about organising / getting my best man to organise a weekend's riding for my stag do... it's not til May next year, so plenty of time, so I was thinking maybe a day's riding somewhere, followed by beers, curry etc etc

However, while they'd be maybe a dozen of us, not all ride... In fact there's probably 4 or 5 who are competent riders, 3 or 4 who I'd trust not to kill themselves and a few who I'm not sure have even been on a bike in the last 25 years...

So, where would be best? We're mostly based in the South East so South Wales would be preferable to Scotland, and whilst I'd like something fun and interesting, I don't want too many broken bones at the wedding...

Not having riden many of the dedicated trail centres I'm looking for some good starting points...

Also, being able to hire a decent cottage somewhere nearby would be a definite bonus!

Cheers

  • Can only vouch for two and there both in Scotland.

Laggan wolftrax is a great trail centre and as easy or technical as you want to make it . Also close by they do everything from Paintball, Quads , rafting or any activities that are good for a stag doo. You could base yourself in either Aviemore or Fort William and climb Ben Nevis. Aviemore is IMO better for a piss up as has later drink licenses .

Glentrees needs no introduction on this site but has loads to offer whether you want to tackle Spooky woods or just stay at the Freeride centre. Only 45 minutes from Edinburgh which is one of the Stag capitals of the UK , great pubs and curry houses and If you time it for August one of the best Comedy festivals in the world.

    Either way enjoy.
  • I also reckon Glentress would be awesome for a stag do, great mix of trails.
But if you are the south then it’s got the be the Afan you can stay at the bunkhouse they are even doing uplifts from April so your none biking friends can take a break. The trails are technical but mostly rideable even for novices

Book early it gets busy in the summer.

I would say that Llandegla would fit the bill. A blue trail for beginners, a red trail for the more experienced and a black trail for the regular bikers. All the trails share the same first 4km to the top of the forest before going their separate ways.
There is also a skills area which has just opened and there is another 10km of trail opening anytime soon.

Yeah, sounds like Llandegla, Glentress... CYB maybe? You need that range of trails, there's any number of places that are great for experienced riders but I don't think from what I've seen that anything else in the country is as good as GT for the whole mixed bag, everything from mentalists to kids on tagalongs can find something to do, and there's good facilities on site too.

Loads of routes. Adrian at http://www.justrideexmoor.co.uk/ can hire you a pre-loaded GPS with the routes and decent bikes for those who don't own them. Lots of good pubs to stay in (my local is good - http://www.lynton-lynmouth-tourism.co.u ... etails.htm) or hire out this place - http://www.exmoorcentre.co.uk

    Will :)

Plenty to think about, cheers chaps... much appreciated.

To be honest, whilst I'd love to do Glentress, it's probably a bit too much of a trek to get to to be an option.

Afan was the one that sprung to mind as it's just off the M4, so not too far to travel, just a question of whether it's suitable for all.

Hadn't really heard of Llandegla before - again a fair old journey to get there, but a better option when we do...

Hadn't thought about Exmoor, but again it's a very good alternative - the idea of hiring a guide for the day with a few skills bits in it might be a way of levelling the playing field a bit too...
