I used to be a silver member of british then stopped cycling for a while. Now back in the saddle and wondering which to go for the legal assistance (in emergencies an all) an all.

CTC adult or British silver or Everyday...

Any thoughts?

I'm a BC member. Most shops do discounts for BC, CTC, LCC or affiliated club membership. Got asked once in Prologue if I was a member of *long list of orgs.*. Was a member of a few but only got the one discount. Dagnabbit ;)

Work out what kind of cycling you want to do - race? commute? leisure?

    Then decide

Assuming I only want to commute (maybe sportives) then which on would you suggest?

  • I did some research and ended up with British Cycling "Everyday" as the general cover is good and I've heard good reports from people who have had problems. This covers you for being hit and hitting someone/something, effectively fully comprehensive. It also covers you for sportives but not for competitive cycling (organised club races or time trials). It is reasonable, only £24 or so for a year. I view this essential now as part of using my bike on the road, especially after a friend was hit by a car and then the driver tried to sue him for the damage! This was a lot of stress for him that would have been taken care for under the BC Everyday scheme.

BC bronze or silver. that way, if you want to start racing, you can without having to pay out for membership of another organisation (although you'll still have to buy a licence)
