1000 Mile Challenge

Hi ,
Next summer i'm planning on cycling 1000 miles around britain in order to raise money for charity, and to remember the life of a close friend.
I'm full of enthusiasm at the minute, however i have next to no knowledge (or experience for that matter!) of road cycling. I hope to cycle 60+ miles a day and would like some advice on what bike i should get and any other accessories i'm likely to need!
I have been told that a specialised allez might be a good starter bike, how do people feel about this?!
Thanks

I would think that the Allez would do the job. However, I think that the Roubaix / Secteur has more relaxed geometry, so might be better suited to longish rides.
In terms of accessories, there's a few threads on the basics that you need. For example, this one:

Fair play, that's a fantastic target. Which charity are you doing it for?0
