use something clean to separate them.

did you accidentally pull the lever while the wheel was out?

if so then get something nice and flat like a really thin spanner etc (make sure it's clean), put it in between the pads and pull/push them firmly back into place (it can require quite a bit of effort, but be careful not to damage the pads or pistons....use a firm but controlled pressure).

You probably won't actually notice any movement, but remember that each piston only needs to retract a couple of mm, so just give it a try then see if the wheel will fit back in.
  • Thanks chaps, I'll have a go.
  • best thing I have found for this job is a cotter pin tool craftsman_cotter_pin_puller_vanadium_bc_f_cropped_inset2.jpg has a nice flat end to cleanly spread the pads. Could also come in useful to stab a bike thief in the face!
  • Great advice chaps, all sorted now thanks.
