No, not the Tom Sharpe book..... Fly Tipping

A section of one of my local loops seems to be a regular dumping ground. No sooner has the council cleared one lot up then more appears soon after. I've seen everything from matresses, clothes, carpets and electrical goods (even had an old caravan rolled into a drainage ditch). What makes it worse is the local recycling centre is only a few miles away. [/rant] I suspect the proximity of a notorious Hull housing estate may have something to do with it [/stereotyping]

Anyone else suffering the the inconsiderate actions of a few oiks?
2 Wheels or not 2 wheels..That is not in question.

I never understand this. To dump it somewhere the you have to take it there. If you can take it there, you can take it to the tip.

Littering in general really grips my you know whats. Alcohol cans, fast food wrapping, soft drinks and fag packets.

How hard is it to put it in a bin.
Det. Sgt. George Carter: Do you know what, Jack? You're full of sh!t.
Det. Insp. Jack Regan: I thought it was about time you made an intellectual contribution to this debate.

Yeah i get that on my commute - make sure you let your local authority know. Mine soon pick it up sharpish. They also claim to be investigating dumpers but i doubt it.

Oh god yes!!! I went to Borders there on Sunday and sat in the coffee shop I had a lovely view of a beautiful dual carriageway and the vibrations from passing trains. Lovely.

Think I'll have to pop to Blackwells in Oxford to rekindle my love of bookshops

Guy who did some biulding work done on my house told me that the local tips are for domestic waste only and that, in order to save on skip hire, many small builders take rubbish in their vans to these tips. If they are lucky, or offer a gratuity to the right waste site operative, then they get rid of the rubbish in said tip. If not then round the corner and in the nearest ditch.

While out on my bike last year I watched someone starting to do this and was threatened with being chased and run over. But he did stop, though he probably went somewhere else.
  • I run a small business and would guess that most fly tipping is done by people like me. Not me in particular!

Part of the problem as mentioned above is that businesses arent normally allowed use the tips / recycling points (no vans / cars with logos etc). We have to pay the council to come round and collect it or pay a skip hire company who include the council charges in the skip hire fees. Over a year it saves a fair chunk of cash if I dont have to pay them or hire a skip.
