Migration from SPDs to Egg beaters

I have just fitted a standard pair Crank Bro egg beaters I fancied a pair of SLs but thought start cheap in case I cannot get on with em, having been used to SPDs I thought there perhaps wouldn't be much difference. 1st time out and I found they realy locked onto my foot not sure though if this is becuse they are new and the cleats nead a bit of bedding in. I have heard of horrer storys where folk come off with torn ligaments etc as a result where the bike will not let go & I don't want this to stop me from taking on stunt challanges and the like.
Any thoughts from experience would be appreciated.

I use Candy C's whch are the same but just with a cage around them. I've not had any bother with them, however they do get loser as time goes on. I think its because the cleat is brass which is a much softer metal. I would keep them lubed up though.0

I changed from Shimano 540 SPD's to Egg Beater SL's in May 2008. I remember the clip in 'click' feeling more precise, after several uses the mechanism does bed in and the 5 degree float angle loosens up a little.
The angle of release can also be adjusted
Cleat with the two circles on your right shoe means earlier release angle on both feet.(15 degree release angle)
Cleat with the two circles on your left shoe means later release angle on both feet. (20 degree release angle)
