I'm not a great one for games on the pc (in fact i've a grand totoal of on, Tiger Woods 06...), but just wondering has anyone had a look at the Pro Cycling game and is it a worthwhile way of killing a few hours ....

I played a demo of 2008 and it was pretty awful to be honest. I don't think anything much has changed for 2009.

I play it and enjoy it. Certainly kills a few hours.

Cycling is not that computer friendly but it seems to work out ok.

Currently in charge of saxo bank. Missed out on both cobbled classics by one place (Damn Fletcha's mad attacks that worked), won all 3 ardenne classics with Frank Schleck, though lost Andy Schleck with a broken wrist which is a real downer for the Tour and I'm fudging through the Giro with a pretty weak team (the rest holding out for the Tour), lead by Kolobnev who's managed to bag 1 stage and 1 second place.

    Good fun.
Note: the above post is an opinion and not fact. It might be a lie.
  • Save your money and get hold of Battlefield 1942. It's every game of soldiers you ever played as a kid (you didn't?) and you get to drive jeeps, tanks and aircraft carriers. Not a push bike to be seen but there is a German three-wheeled motorbike thing.

    :D

PCM 2009 is a decent game. The 2009 version is essentially an enhanced 2008 version (much the same as with other sports game franchises I guess). You can definitely have good fun with it. At times the AI can be a little frustrating, but if you enjoy cycling you will almost definitely like the game.

In my current game I've put together a pretty good squad, with the likes of Nibali, Contador, Gilbert, etc. Winning or even placing on some of the really hard events can be extremely satisfying.

One thing worth noting is that the developers now have 2 teams working on the game. One worked on the 2009 version, while the other was working in the background on PCM 2010. Apparently this version will have a completely new graphics engine and major enhancements. So, go and buy 2009, but keep your eyes peeled for the 2010 version next June.

There's also a 2009 TdF game for the Xbox 360 which has a free demo available on Xbox Live. Didn't make me want to buy it though.

Played 2008, a bit tedious for me. If felt rather amateurish, full of bugs and just really obviously wrong stuff, also came with Starforce protection, which I wasn't happy about. I'm sure yiou could have some fun with it though, in the same way you can have fun with an empty cardboard box. All imo, of course.
  • well i like it! for a game, the tactics are quite realistic to the real world of cycling. and there is now a track mode :P including sprint, keirin, points, scratch ect..

    plenty of fun!! buy it

I bought it but have played sparingly. I actually quite like the track racing, must be something to do with a short attention span (even though I wasted a lot of my youth playing Championship Manager)!

I find it all to be a bit slow, although that could be my PC, I upgraded the memory to the max the computer could take (4gb), but perhaps my graphics card is just a bit too slow - I'm not a massive gamer so don't have a gamer spec PC.

I've got the PSP version. It's rubbish.
