Hi All,

I'm after some new tyres for my 80's Panasonic Raleigh. I'm wanting something with an amber sidewall. I don't want to lose that retro look & stick some pro races etc. Idealy they would be on the sporty side. The rims are 700c.

All the new stuff appears to be all black or red/blue/yellow etc...no good old fashioned amber. I would've thought with this "fixie" craze that's everywhere stuff like this would be easy enough to find....nope

Deda do their RS Corsa tyre with amber sidewalls, although they can be hard to track down. I was in Condor Cycles in London last week and they had some, might be worth giving them a call? I use these on my 1990s De Rosa and they look perfect.

I think you can still get Veloflex tyres with amber sidewalls too, these are very high quality racing tyres that tend to wear quickly but the grip and feel is superb.

You can also get Panaracer Pasella tyres with an amber sidewall and they are much easier to find, although as touring tyres the rolling resistance is higher than a pure race tyre.

Conti GP 4 seasons have quite a nice old school look, I have them on my Look KG171 Team. The skinwall reinforcement gives a nice amber sidewall.
    Complicating matters since 1965

Veloflex Paves - amber sidewalls and colours too! I think Veloflex make the Deda tyres too.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Schwalbe do quite a few tyres with amber sidewalls - low cost too.

Veloflex, retro looks and reputedly some of the finest tyres you can get!

    Thanks y'all for the info.

Went into LBS this after & have got some Deda RS Corsa's on order. They'll be here Wednesday, so might take the old girl out for a spin on Sunday in her fancy new boots!

    Thanks again.

Do any of you know of tyres like this that come in 25mm width? I'd like:

    -25mm wide
    -natural amber sidewall
-completely slick carbon black tread, no dual compound and so on.

Avocet used to do something like this, but I can never find them. And Veloflex never go bigger than 22. Am I missing something obvious?

I've got 25mm Conti 4 seasons on mine. As stated above, they have a kind of amber sidewall. Black tread.

Thanks. It might have to be those next. I can't help being a bit irritated by unnecessary tread patterns though, and I'd prefer old-style amber sidewalls. Veloflex would be perfect if only they came a bit bigger. Picky, I know.

I'm glad it's not only me. I won't buy a tyre with a tread pattern on principle, it looks so wrong.

The GP4 Season has got a red criss-cross pattern reinforcement on the sidewalls - not at all retro-looking IMO. Vredestein used to do a Fortezza in 25mm which was a nice tyre - bit more robust that the Veloflex / Dedas - black tread and amber sidewalls but nobody seems to bring it into the UK - only the Quattro which is nothing like as durable IME

That looks sort of ideal, but it looks discontinued, at least my navigation of Vredestein's horrific website didn't turn any up (are cycling manufacturer websites the worst in the world? I though un-navigable Flash sites were soo 2002!). I'd get some of these Avocets if I could – black sidewalls sadly but at least they're plain tread. Has anybody seen them for sale here?
