First of all, well done to all those riders who managed to complete this event today.
Was considering entering myself but as I have only been cycling with any intent for a month now and also being on call this weekend, I don't think it would have been a good idea.
Drove around part of the course, from Leek back to Brian Rourkes in Stoke on Trent. Saw plenty of enthusiasts working very hard climbing out of Leek and through Brown Edge etc.
Must say, having looked at the route taken, it is for people with more than a month of road cycling experience.
May enter for it next year, as I am up to about 40 miles now in 2hrs 40 mins and with some work in the winter and next year, feel that I will be in the right condition to give it a go.
Once again, credit to all those who were riding today and for such a good cause. I know there was a couple from Amsterdam and I suspect there aren't many climbs like there were today anywhere near to where they live.
See you next year hopefully.

Glad you enjoyed it. I did it a couple of years ago and it is a good event.
But not a race - a charity ride.
(and definitely not a race as far the organisers and their insurers are concerned, although some of the quick guys at the front are pushing-on a bit)
There is already a thread already here http://www.bikeradar.com/road/forums/vi ... t=126501310 -
hey i did the cat and fiddle ride on Sunday. i traveled from Grimsby with my friend Jon to our good friend joe white who lives in stoke. we did the ride and it was great. must admit the hill is easy if you do it in low gears and keep a rhythm in cadence and breathing. or you could be Malcolm Elliot, brian rourke and sean kelly who big ringed it all the way up !It Never Gets Easier, you just get Faster and luckier.

I last did the Tour of Peak in 1993... my vague memory is Cat and Fiddle was not bad, was big ringable- ...gradual out of Buxton, and Winnats Pass was total hell, very very steep , cattle grid at base...but very atmospheric as crowded I remember. The Tour of the Peaks was a cracking event. This one http://www.digicam69.co.uk/mam_tor_winnats_pass16.jpg0

I'd vaguely remembered Matt Stephens won so googled his wikipedia page and yes, it was him. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_Stephens_(cyclist) I was back at 4 or 5 minutes off in mid 20s placing I think..just remember winnats was impressive0
