Went out on the dark side bike today, and there was a definite chill in the air.

    Roll on misty mornings :D

Its grim up North, unlike the South - rolling through Bedgebury trails and it was lovely! :P
  • Thats just because us Northrners can hack it.... bunch of fairies down south, esp in London :lol:
  • I was out today in the north and I could tell winter was on the doorstep. No rain or mud but there was a chill in the air. Long lycra even had to go on under the baggys.

wind yesterday was harendous, took 1:45 to do first half of our ride and 2:45 to do the 2nd half! and the wind had some good chill too

We've only had about 2hrs rain in the last 3 weeks in Northamptonshire - dusty as hell everywhere - trails are getting fesh fesh on them!

Out yesterday with a thermal long sleeved and a long jersey and still had to put a softshell on!
Winter is coming - I'd give it another 3 weeks for us before the snow hits.

Still - I love riding when it's like this. Sunny but crisp.

hey! Londoners I agree with ;) down in the proper south we MTFU and get out in the rain (lets face it in england you'd wouldn't get much done otherwise) Just looked at the 5-day weather for Brighton rain, rain, rain, cloud/rain, rain.....it's lucky I love mud!

ok people from the south/south east are fairies but from the southwest (proper southwest i.e not dorset, avon or somerset) we get everything the atlantic can throw at us and it doesn't matter gales and horizontal rain and all the salt in the air corroding everything it can and it still doesn't matter cos it wont stop us going out on our bikes!

Sorry Hercule, you only get wind and rain down there.
I'd bet the worst weather in winter has got to be in Scotland.

(p.s. Londoners are softies  )

Now THAT is a mountain bikers attitude!

by the way, any good recommendations for winter gloves. I got the feet sorted last year but the hands are still a problem...

Latex gloves from the local DIY under your usual gloves.

Do I need any lube under or on the gloves?
Sounds a bit proctology to me...

I'll take that as an invitation...

seriously though - how should a thin latex glove help keep my fingers warm?

Worn underneath your regular riding gloves, they keep the wind and rain out although they are hopeless if you have sweaty palms. They're about £1 for a pack of 10.

Looked at the forcast and thought I would be fine today. Got on my darkside bike for an extended ride to work (45 mins). 10 mins from the end the hevens opend and I got a proper soaking.
