New to MTB(went on cannock chase and loved it), been following the site for 2 months and also looking up in internet for bikes. Now, narrowed to (probably) Felt Q520 / Trek 4300 disc. Any suggestions. my price between 300-375 pounds maximum. Another question, anyone suggest claud butler pagan. reviews are difficult to find. Help please..... :?:

to be honest think about the riding your going to do, if its going to be rough stuff most of the time you might what to consider going for a full susser and spending a bit more, lots of the bike shops do interest free credit.
Also good time now to pick up a 09 bike thats well discounted as most places are getting 2010 models in, you gouls pick upa £600 quick bile for under £400
I did the same as you and soon wanted to upgrade as my GT agressor wasn't really up to scratch
also try and go for hyraulic discs, mech ones are kak!0 -
Hi, With your budget you could get a very good higher spec second hand bike which is what i have done
Without starting a debate if your new to mtb i would get a decent hardtail over a full suss to start with as unless your intent on going straight onto rocky stuff IMO a hardtail is a better allround bike over a full suss especially to learn on
Which route did you do at Cannock and where are you from?On One Inbred 456
On One Inbred SS0 -
DON'T get a full susser as a first bike, you DON'T need one for the chase. I ride but the downhill big drop offs on a fully rigid without any problems
Go for as lighter weight hardtail as you can afford, maybe even up your budget if you can.
Don't buy your first bike without test riding it, try a few test bikes from Swinnertons on the chase.0 -
thanks for advise (bigmart / krazy and john). I live in stafford. been to local shops. dont like the idea of buying on internet anymore. going to swinnerton chase this weekend and will try out some. will see, what they have to offer. asked for second hand, but unfortunately sold out there. I have decided for the hardtail rather the full suss.0

Try Swinnertons in Stoke as well.
Ask for a deal and they should help you out.
The 2 branches are related but I think they have fallen out, so use one against the other for a better deal :?
Your right Henry Burtons in Stafford although a helpfull little shop it isn't what you're after.0 -
Definitely don't go for a full sus on that budget - it will be rubbish compared to a hard tail.
You might find a few ex-demos also.0
