Is it true that these wheels will only accept Durace cassettes? I know i've read the answer to this question somewhere here on these forums but cannot find it...

I have a set of these wheels, with Shimano cassette on the rear.
I doubt very much that it's a DA cassette though... I'm sure I would have noticed the hiked up bill!
Epic Cycles supplied mine, c/w cassette, so maybe call and ask them.
I'm running a SRAM Force groupset with mine.

Have you read the info from their website? Looks like you're correct in your assumptions

Actually - if you read CAREFULLY - you will see that there is one particular freehub body that ONLY works with Dura Ace. However, if you read on, there is also a generic Shimano freehub body that works with various cassettes.

Unless specifically requested - it's unlikely you'd have the Dura Ace ONLY version of the freehub.

I have read it carefully. The 2009 version is fitted with a freehub that is only compatible with Dura-ace. The 2008 version has a different freehub.
You can take a look at Wiggle where people have asked the same question.
I don't know a lot about Shimano, so I've got no idea how a freehub is specific to Dura-ace.

Thanks for the imput guys, I was hoping someone would come along and say yes you can fit any cassette on the latest version but it looks like what's written on the Easton webby is not a mistake :(

I'm pretty sure Easton have 3 different freehubs for these wheels - when I bought mine I asked for the standard Shimano/SRAM freehub (which is black) and is 8,9 and 10 speed compatible - but mine are the 2008 model. I think from memory the 10 speed only one is red and there is a campag version as well. One of the things I like about these wheels is you can change the freehub for about 40 quid if you change your drive train. If you want to buy a set of the EA90SLX - try asking your retailer to make sure you have the standard shimano freehub. I'm sure I read on a US forum that Easton still offer the choice. You could always call them in the US to get the answer from the horses mouth.

I've got an Ultegra cassette on the 2009 version of these wheels (purchased from Chain Reaction in August), which went on with no problem.

My son has an Ultegra 6700 cassette on another pair of the 2009 wheels (delivered today)
You might want to ask Chain Reaction what hub they purchase if there are choices. I just chose the Shimano option

So fit doesn't seem to be an issue. If however the problem is that it'll fit but it'll eat the hub, that's a different story, I'll let you know in time :)

    Found this on Wiggle

Details: I would like to use ESA90 SLX with my ultegra cassette. Default R4SL hub is not compatible to ultegra. Is it possible for you to replace the R4SL hub to normal R4?

    Thank you

    A: Hi
I have done just that myself today with my EA90 SLXs which I bought . I replaced a campy R4SL freehub with a Shimano 9/10 speed R4 hub and mounted an SRAM PG970 cassette with no issues. It requires two 5mm allen keys and is very simple to do (Easton website has instructions). The only thing I would say though is that Easton don't recommend using a cassette that is made up of separate gears on an alloy freehub as it they bite into the splines. I've never had an Ultegra cassette so not sure how they are constructed.
    Hope this helps
