Can they still claim royalties even if most people think it's shit and don't want to hear it?
If they demand royalties for anything played on Capital or Heart FM i'd be minded to claim compensation for having to listen to it in the first place. :evil:0 -
I occasionally listen to music at work.
1) When people are talking pish somewhere in the office I can cut it off.
2) When I want limited interruptions I can use it to my advantage
3) When I get pissed off at something the headphones are much better than a mug to lob at the screen.
4) I choose what's on so I can play nice calming music, reduces the chance of me throwing someone across the room instead of the earphones.Do Nellyphants count?

They've recently banned MP3s or radios with headphones in our factory. It's all down to health and safety apparently.
The two reasons given are:
1) With headphones in and the volume loud enough to hear over the machinery, it makes it harder to hear various alarms.
2) With headphones in and the volume loud enough to hear over the machinery, it can push the total volume up to levels which can damage hearing.
Both seem perfectly reasonable to me. Radios (without the use of headphones) are allowed, as long as the volume isn't too high.Science adjusts it’s beliefs based on what’s observed.
Faith is the denial of observation so that Belief can be preserved0 -

So, you're on the phone all the time and then you're trying to interrupt people who are trying to concentrate? And you wonder why they wear headphones? You're not at work to be "sociable".
Sorry if that sounds a bit harsh, but I work in software development and I do have to concentrate. I hate open plan offices and I don't want to listen to some idiot yammering on about Big Brother or the latest plebwarblefest on the TV when I'm trying to solve complex problems.
Sorry slow reply as I've not been about.
As Pross mentioned I'm wanting to talk to colleagues about work related matters, whilst I like to think I'm knowledgable about my work I don't know everything so do have to ask questions. This is the kind of social interaction I was talking about (I'd class any discussion work related or not as a social interaction), not sitting around talking about Big Brother!!
Whether you are a software developer or not (btw we don't have any software developers in our office), customers pay your wages, I speak to customers and if I need to get an answer quickly to keep a customer happy, then I expect a quick answer. I don't expect to have to wait until someone eventually realises that I'm trying to get their attention before being able to ask a question.0
