And once again...
Tyn y Groes Hotel. Good home cooking, great welcome, secure bike storage etc etc. Google it.0 -
Great little B&B overthe hill in Llanfachreth called Heulwen - a quick google should provide contact details!Old hockey players never die - they just smell that way...0

The Tyn-y-Groes Hotel almost ruined our weekend!
This hotel is on the main A road. With no double glazing, the cars and trucks going by at 60mph sound like they're going right through the room.
But the worst thing were the mattresses. We felt every single spring! (My wife ended up sleeping on the floor...) No one in our party got more than a few hours sleep, the beds were that uncomfortable. Add to that the toilet that didn't flush (at all) and a very inattentive wait-staff and you can imagine our disappointment.
When we checked out after one night (we had booked for two) because we were so dissatisfied, the owner was very rude, called us liars, and refused to refund our money for the second night even though we were definitely not going to stay there.
My lowest possible recommendation. (Try biking all day with just a couple hours of sleep - tough!)
It was so worth it to find another place - which we eventually did: a wonderful B&B in nearby Dolgellau called Dwy Olwyn (Two Wheels) Their website is www.DwyOlwyn.co.uk.) Only £24 per person! An extremely nice landlady. And what a view of the Welsh mountains...0 -
It's a bit strange comment from Nelson** ... stayed in TYG 3 times this year, and didn't have any problems mentioned. Must be too fussy, but then all people have different opinions and standards-expectations. Nelson, don't want to be offensive but you Mr. might be on the mission to blackmail other places, however what you suggest ... seems a good deal and worth a try. I am tempted. What could have been (Video)
I'll choose not put too much stake into someone's opinion who is admittingly terrible though0 -
Dear Popstar,
Maybe you had a different room than us (I hope so) but there was just no way to get comfortable on the mattresses we had in our room. No matter how we slept there were springs poking us in the back or ribs. All three of us had the same experience.
But you're right, I expect more from a £38 per person, "3 star" hotel. Call me spoiled I guess... I do stay in a lot of hotels and have never had a worse bed.
I am certainly not on a mission to blackmail anyone! I just want to save my fellow mountain bikers from having the same experience we had, an experience which almost ruined a weekend of great biking in what I now consider to be the best spot I've ever ridden. (Go Tarw!)
We got lucky finding Mrs. Jones' B&B (thanks to David of the Dollegau Tourist Centre!) and so I want to help her out as best I can, even though it might mean she's full up the next time we want to go. But if I can help out a fellow rider and a nice lady with a small business at the same time, my work here is done : )0 -
I see, you say some facts ... will take and pass your advice from now on. But have to agree, no double glazing ... beds were just about ok-ish, hehh you sound perfectly reasonable.
Tarw* is a nerve-concetration cracker! Did Dragons back (lovely family owned Villa to stop for lunch in middle of route) but will be back to ride MBR soon, and will open my eyes and mind for different B&B too. What could have been (Video)
