I have rockshox domain 318 with 20mm axel (maxale) with a standard 74mm POST MOUNT and im wanting to fit a hope mono m4 which is IS MOUNT.

I bought the brake on ebay and it came with what i believe to be a 183mm hope wavey rotor.

So which mount will i need if i want to run it with a 183/180mm rotor?

im going to be buying a new rotor anyway, so its the adaptor thats the main thing. i dont particularly want to have to upgrade to a 203 rotor, because theres just no need for such a large rotor on an all mountain bike.

please help as its doing my head in.

  • You'll need a POST to IS adaptor, hope make one...

If you use this adaptor on a POST mount fork, you'll need a 180mm rotor.

    Buy it here:

    Hope this helps!

You need what you say you do - an IS caliper to Post Mount fork adaptor for your rotor size.

They have a few on CRC.
  • hope tried to tell me they dont do one for 180mm disk so would have to upgrade to 203, so did m.l.b.s. but when i phoned chain reactions they said they had just the thing? so just ordered it and if its not right then il just send it back.

i did try and explain that as standard i should be running a 160mm disk but my hayes has an adaptor as it is, so that when i added an adaptor id have to run a 180mm disk which is what im running anyway.

god bless chain reactions! can always rely on them!
  • oh and that did help guys, massive thanks. that was the one ive ordered. so i will see when it arrives

    cheers
  • There aren't many forks that you can direct mount a caliper and it not use a 160mm rotor (I think there are only a few dual crown forks that will be 180mm using a direct mounting a caliper).

I know that Domain forks are 160mm direct mount because my friend has some with 160mm rotors and no adaptor, so using this adaptor should make it a 180mm rotor considering it adds 20mm. Worst comes to the worst you'll have to run a 200mm rotor - least you'll have immense braking!!!
  • I think the answer depends on the caliper that you have, the Hope PM to IS mount adds 20MM so if the caliper was IS mount 183MM then with the mount it will be 203MM

If you caliper is number 3 then with the adaptor it will be 205MM
If it is number 5 then with the adaptor it will be 185MM

  • I bought one from a2z componens, seems decently made, although I have not got around to fitting it yet, due to this poxy swine fly, only 11:99 as well

Ah yeah, of course; I totally forgot that the Hope IS mount calipers are a straight fit to a certain sized rotor, well pointed out.
  • well i got the adaptor on, it fits, but the rotor is too small!!! proper gutted, looks like im going to have to run a 203 rotor.

is a 203 not abit over kill for XC/AM riding?
  • If I am not mistaken, all post mount to IS require a 20mm increase in disc size, I thought someone told you that above?

not all but most commonly available ones do.
