Do my shoes reek?!

Loving my new dhb R1 shoes, much more comfortable & effective than my old shimano ones. They've only done about 300 miles, of which 80 have been wet, most of those with overshoes on top. I'm normally very slack in my personal habits but a few years as an outdoor instructor taught me to dry my gear out straight away, so they've not been left wet at any time.
So how come they stink?
The smell is not quite like normal bad shoe smell, I reckon it's more like a cross between silage and horse urine. Or something like that. It is really quite unpleasant to have them in the same room.
Has anyone else experienced something similar, & any suggestions what to do about it?

My cycle shoes are fine, but my running trainers stink in much the way you describe. I think it is because my feet sweat when I run but don't seem to when I cycle.

I have exactly the same problem with my Shimano shoes. It seems to be related to riding in the wet.

I did the Race Around Ireland a few weeks ago and couldn't even leave my shoes in the RV during the rest periods !!

Scholls do a shoe deodoriser product and it has no effect.

Maybe unrelated, but son had some v expensive Adidas football boots which once wet for the first time began to smell like cats pee. Nothing worked on them. Suspect that one of the many synthetic components was releasing some unpleasant volatile substance. Should really have taken them back I suppose.

And you have found a super new way of peepee in bibtights without taking them off, however, it has facilitated another issue.
