Which pressure gauge?

The mini pump that I have - or am getting as a belated birthday pressie - is bike matching. OK OK I know, but it looks good.

But, and I suppose it is a big but given that I will only use it to help in the repair of a puncture, having a track pump at home, it has no pressure gauge.

Does any one out there use a separate gauge and if so do you have any recommendations as there does not seem to be many presta compatible ones out there, and they are either expensive or v.cheap.

  • I think you maybe getting a little too deep into it. I admire you for wanting to get it just right but I have found the best pressure gauge after repairing a puncture on the go is my thumb! Just use the pump until it feels like you cannot get any more air in, as no matter what the blurb on the packet says I don't think there is a frame pump on the market that can get tyres much beyond 100psi, then give it the old squeeze with your thumb, if it feels ok then off you go. Try squeezing the tyre when it is up to pressure using your track pump and you'll get used to the feeling.

Thanks uptonspark, I think you're right. I was just concerned with getting pressure to tyre minimum which is usually 100psi without risking snakebites.

Now what can I spend the money I've saved on?

£20+, of course I would have got the expensive gauge, muddies for the winter bike!!!!
