DNP freewheel play

I have a DNP freewheel 7 speed index 28T – 13T, there seems to be a bit of play in the freewheel mechanism. Is this normal. Also, can I fit any 7 speed freewheel that screws on to the wheel.

I have another question about 7 speed gears. I notice Shimano do a 7 speed freewheel
( Shimano Mega Range HG 40 Freewheel 14-34 7 Speed) cluster with a 34t large cog. The other cogs are evenly spaced up to this, then there's a large jump. Will the change from 2nd to 1st be reliable with such a large jump.

any freewheel will fit on the threads.

millions of bikes have the mega range fitted. but it is more of an emergency gear.

Oh and what play does your have?

If I pick it up and shake it I can hear it rattle. I can also see and feel movement of about 0.25mm side to side.

replace it then.

DNP are a cheaper alternative to Shimano. Probably talking pennies when buying in bulk but all adds up.

Thanks all for the help. Went to my LBS and picked up a new Shimano 7 speed free wheel for £14.99. Fitted it last night, much smoother and quieter now.
