Ultra Torque BB Cups

Hey,

My new Ridley Noah frame has been supplied with Super Record BB Cups.
These have "For Super Record 11s Only" on them - which got me thinking that maybe the CULT bearings of SR are slightly different to the standard Record bearings. :? :?:

I can't find anything on the Campy site that mentions any difference, so maybe the text really means "11s Only" ?

I'll be swapping the Record 11s Grouppo over from my other bike and want to make sure before I start the build just in case I need to change BB cups. (I can't use the ones off my other bike - Ridley = english thread / Guerciotti = Italian)

Advice appreciated. :)

The only difference (apart from the colour) is that the super record ones don't have seals on the inside (i.e. to prevent contamination of the bearings from inside the BB). Both super record and record/chorus have seals on the outside (crank side). The idea is that the cult bearings can run without lubrication so don't need these extra seals.

You'll be able to transfer the record components over without any trouble, but if you get water inside the frame the the bearings will be slightly less protected. Of course you could pick up a set of cult bearings to match the cups...

Incidentally they're not 11sp only - the 10sp and 11sp cups are the same.

Beware that if you change the bearings you will need a bearing extractor to get the old ones off the crank (or be able to persuade the LBS to do it for you). It can get expensive...

    Thanks heaps.

I'll either build as-is, or get record cups.

Can't say I recall seeing any seals on the Record cups when I built it up ?

They're not obvious, just a little black rubber ring fixed inside the threaded bit. At least they are there on my 10sp cups, and I'm pretty sure that 10sp/11sp chorus/record cups are all the same.
