Rear caliper on front?

Probably a silly question..

With a cursory glance, it looks like this XTR rear disc caliper might fit on the front. It wouldn't, would it?

The bolt holes appear to line-up, and I believe some calipers fit front and rear?

yes but the rotor will be bigger.

read the info in the FAQs.

    Ah, thanks :)
  • Is it only IS specific calipers that will be bigger, Post specific calipers should be the same and its the adaptor that makes the difference i.e. front 160mm IS to POST adaptor is the same as a rear 180mm adaptor.

This caliper is an IS mount, I think... ( I've just started building this bike and I'm not familiar with all the terminology)
If I understand teh FAQ right, I can fit this caliper on the front, but I'll have to use a 180mm disc?

I asked because I got a new XTR rear caliper for only 30 quid from CRC and it looks like it would also fit the front forks (Rock Shox Rebas), so I thought I might get another while they're going so cheap!

    Cheers.
