9 speed rear derailleur on 8 speed setup?

Can I use this rear mech on my 8 speed setup?
Shimano XT Rear Derailleur M751
I'm looking at replacing the front and rear mech as they're pretty about 4 years old. The front mech has a lot of play in it and they're both pretty low spec (shimano Altus rear and C050 front).
The front mech I'm looking at is this Shimano XT Front Derailleur M761.
I'll be buying an XT gear cable set to go with them also. These, and the Cane Creek S3 headset I have sitting in my basket take me to £100 which is my budget. Any other suggestions on components?

should be fine? i am using a SLX shadow mech , tis fine! better then the Alivio i had, more snappy

Yes, will be fine. Front may rub slightly in some combos.0
