Has anybody any experience of this bike box or similar:

What's required to use it regarding removing handlebars/stem. Has it proved reliable.

Advice and experience greatly appreciated. I usually use a soft bad with padding but had spokes broke on wheels so looking for somthing more reliable.

I have the Polaris Bike Pod, which i very similar to that one, & I've travelled 4 times to France this year with it & had no issues (apart from BA losing it twice, which is nothng to do with the box itself, just BA incompetence!).
Removing the handlebars, pedals & saddle are really easy - check out the Park Tools website if you need any advice.
  • Hi Pretre,

Thanks for your experience - Do you have to remove the stem ot just the handlebar from the stem?

It's just I always find setting the tension on the stem a bit tricky.

I'd go with a hard case myself. The DHB case on wiggle is a decent budget option.

  • The hard cases look OK but are very heavy, even with wheels.

I'm a wimp and want something a little lighter - Tom

It looks similar to the Scicon in that you loosen the handlebars, turn the fork and roll the drops under the tt.. Cover the bike with foam/buuble wrap and thenadd the wheels. The covering helps protect the frame if you put shoes, helmet in the case. Looks like a Polaris case. Quite good value.

I'd rather wheel a heavy thing that carry a heavyish thing 8)

I've done two Alps trips this year. One with a bike bag, one with a hard bike case. The latter was more secure and easier to use.

I've used this one for one trip so far and it worked fine.

Seems similar to the PBK one as in it's EVA rather than "hard" plastic.

Certainly it offered every bit as much protection as this one my mate had.
