Looking to upgrade my tyres for something good, with all-round benefits that will improve the ride and grip over my zaffiros or whatever they are that came with my bike.

Have looked at Open Paves and Force Attacks and wondered what the differences are between them apart from the paves being green!

Not sure how keen I am on the green but all reports sound good, with the Contis I was a little concerned over the ride qualities of a 22mm tyre.

Anyone used both or has any advice or counter suggestions?

Cheers.

You're a bit vague and dismissive about your 'zaffiros', but the Vittoria Zaffiro Pro II tyres are probably the best training tyres one can get, based on ease of mounting, ride quality, low resistance, puncture protection and weight. Also their price is lower than comparable tyres from others and if you're so inclined, they come in colours. Maybe you have a different Zaffiro?

Re your concern about Contis and 'ride' quality', usually Contis do well in tests and reviews with respect to 'ride' quality'.
For competition, I'd go with Conti Grand Prix 4000 RS tyres.

    I have the basic Zaffiro.

My housemate has those GP4000s tyres and has reported that it vastly improved his ride comfort and the feel or confidence, however you want to put it, in the handling of the bike. He has also swapped from the basic Zaffiros that came with his Bianchi c2c.

I don't have a problem with the ride quality on my tyres, my bike feels great but I'm keen to see how much this can be improved by some new ones, hence the question. From the improvement he reckons he's got it seems to be the cheapest upgrade I could do for a really noticeable benefit.
  • Pave CGs in 24mm are more durable for winter and ride better. Force/Attack is a nice combination for racing on a good surface but they aren't nearly as supple as the Vittorias which feel much better and grip better, particularly in the wet - partly more supple and wider tyre. If you've been riding mid-range tyres you will notice the difference of the high threadcount Vittorias. In their favour, the Continentals are durable and fairly puncture proof.

Thanks James, I'll give the Paves a go, see how the green wears against my white/black/blue frame.

I'm becoming obsessed with trying to turn my road bike into a turbo charged marsh mallow, ride is everything.
  • I like the turbo charged marshmallow image! You can pick up all-black Paves if you're willing to hunt around for them... Green is the only acceptable non-black tyre colour IMO! :DY

Oh really, I didn't know that!

Will try and hunt some down then.

    Cheers again.

Right been searching for a deal on the Open Paves to stick on me new wheels.

£66 delivered is the best I found on Ebay.

    Anyone seen anything better?

    Cheers!
