HI, i am looking to get a higher gear ratio on my bmx becuase i have become used to the 2.77 ratio i have at the moment. I use the bike to get to college so i dont do any tricks other than bunny hops etc. I have a mongoose menace with a 36/13 set up at the moment and i am looking for a 39 or 40 on the front. I am conserned about fitting it tho becuase the bigger chainring will obviously have a bigger width than the original. I looked at my bmx and saw that the gap between the original chainring and the frame is fairly close and im worried if i get a bigger chainring will it hit the frame?

( I cannot afford a new backwheel or hub with a smaller/bigger tooth ring )

Thanks in advance

Doug

can you space out your cranks?

    What are the cranks?

They might be OK but first I would give Alan's a ring and tell them what you want to do. I've always found them really helpful.

Jr's Mongoose Expert had a slightly odd diameter crank axle and neither 19mm or 22mm sprockets fitted properly. I had to enlarge the hole in a Mankind sprocket and then refit the original Mongoose collar.

if they are 3 pc there is no probs spacing them out.

you just need more of these.
