Help to select the right winter tyre to suit my rigid bike

Hi Guys,

I need to find a suitable winter tyre that will suit my bike.

At the moment I have big 2.35's to give a little cushioning as I have no suspension. Can I get away with big fat tyres, as I though skinny were better in winter? I have a set of bontrager mud x but they are only 1.9's. Can I use fatties in the mud?

Cheers,

No, a black hole will appear in the trail and the universe will implode.

    :D

Thinner tyres are better in mud - proper mud tyres should be less then 2.0 imo. Good mud tyres are panaracer trailraker and bonty mud x.

However, if you're more worried about having some volume, keep the bigger ones on. But you will be sacrificing grip, mud sheddingness(?), and mud clearance. Also, I think mud actually gives a bit of cushioning on its own - if that makes any sense.
