Pedals - Which Flats

I have been using SPD's for a few months now, think they are great but its just a pain when you have to wear specific shoes to ride..... especially after the massive rain storm which meant having to use public transport as the shoes were soaked through.
So i am thinking about getting a good set of flats to use, something that works well, provides good grip and looks good.
So far the DMR V12's and Shimano DX's seem to tick all the boxes but what others are out there. Plus what are peoples experiences with these pedals.
Cheers

I have a pair of Sanderson PC 424 Promag ST Mag's, they have sealed cartridge bearings, which I can use when wearing anything on my feet, in fact I even used them with flip-flops in France last summer, amazing grip, but not exactly cheap at around £45. They are quite a large pedal with plenty of nice long pins. I bought them so I could ride to the pub in normal clothes and shoes without slipping off and reckon they were worth the money as they work. Nice and light too. However, they are too big for trails as the size means you run the risk of grounding out.
Shimano also do the "Shimano PDM 324 SPD / Flat Pedals", these are flat on one side and clip in on the other. I cannot recommend these as I have never tried them but read a decent write up on them in one of the mags recently. I have seen them for around £35.Ridley Orion0 -
yeah wellgo i got them, great!!0

Was tempted by the V12's as they look nice and can be customised (as well as being able to upgrade and maintain them).
the shimano ones I just like the look of them.
wellgo's I have had a few looks at them but still not 100% on how they can produce them so cheaply.... plus I am sure the V12 and v12 copy look different?FCN: 5/6 Fixed Gear (quite rapid) in normal clothes and clips

There can be minor cosmetic variations.
Ask yourself instead why the DMR are so expensive... Wellgo make thjem for DMR ;-)0 -

+1 for wellgo. I have the v8 copies on my street / play bike and they are great. Really grippy even with "normal" shoes rather than ones that have the special super-tacky rubber soles. They do munch shins though! My Website - Trail Centre info for the UK: MTB Trail Time0

which pins would people recommend.... I want grip in all conditions, doubt it will be in full mud and snow but I dont want them to eat trainers or wreck my shins too bad.FCN: 5/6 Fixed Gear (quite rapid) in normal clothes and clips

The standard pins in most pedals will do you really, with sensible shoes- I've vaguely considered removing some from my MG1s since with 5:10s there's really more grip than I need- I sometimes ride in ancient Caterpillar trail boots if I'm doing any digging and even those grip well enough for decent fun riding.
DMR sell their Terror Pins for V12s, which as far as I can tell are for freeriders, downhillers and medieval knights who want a more destructive morningstar. I've never looked at my V8s and thought "I wish that was spikier".Uncompromising extremist0 -
I've recently bought some V8's.
Out of the box they needed some setting up. No grease and way too tight. The little tube of grease supplied wasn't enough for even one pedal.
Once setup they have been great. Not slipped off once and don't really want to as the pins will hurt for sure.0 -
hertswenip - I'm not sure why your V8's seem like that. I still have a tiny bit of the grease left and both pedals spin superbly.2010 Specialized hardrock sport disc.0

I've been using the wellgo flatties, very good for the price, use them on my old hard tail for riding to work and messing about in the local woods. Also theyve left a few dents in my shins....Its all part of the fun me thinksIf you fall off try again !
